Match Reports 2006/2007
16/09/06 - U9 Match Report - Graveley 0, Godmanchester A 9
It was the first match for the U9 with a friendly against a Godmanchester A team that had played together as an U8 team and are in the top division. It was always going to be a tough match as the score reflects. But there were a lot of good points for the season ahead.
We held out at 1 - 0 for the first 15 minutes with battling defending and some great runs forward from Grace and Declan, but just couldn't get a shot in on goal. The mid part of the game we lost our shape and started to follow the ball and not marking well and we were punished by some good finishing.
But the final 15 minutes were our best, again only conceding 1 goal and getting 2 chances on goal from Grace and James. Matt and Seb shared the goalkeeping duties prior to our big money signing arriving from Bourn next week and both played well in defence. James was full of running with some strong tackling, Jamie was good going forward, Jordan showed he can pass a ball and Declan and Grace showed some good skills and strong tackling. Joe has a sweet left foot and is a strong tackler.
It was great to see the team enjoy the game despite the score and they never gave up. I'm sure it won't be long before we get a win and I think 6-a-side will suit us better.
Well played to all and congratulations to Seb for his allround contribution which was rewarded with the Man of The Match award.
And some words from the other manager who sent this after the game:
"My lads thoroughly enjoyed the game, and despite the score I congratulate you and your team for playing the game in the right spirit and for never giving up.
Good luck for the new season which I'm sure with a few more games under your belt will prove successful."
