2007/2008 - Under 10s Match Reports

And so to our first away match of the season. Another beautiful day on the slopes of Great Paxton.

We were without Lewis and Seb today and so James "volunteered" to go in goal after a crash course in goalkeeping from Keith who taught him all he knew about goalkeeping.

Grace was captain today and elected to play down the hill first. It proved to be a good decision as we were on top at the start of the match. Jordan came close to giving us the lead before a direct run by Jon took him into the penalty area and he tucked the ball in the far corner of the net. Our second came shortly afterwards - a short corner between Grace and Jamie led to a shot by Joe sneaking in at the far post. We had other chances, with Grace and Jamie getting some shots in. Towards the end of the first half Paxton put us under pressure. Matt did well to hold up a 3 vs 1 in defence and got the ball clear. Our excitement about attacking sometimes meant we didn't get back very quickly but Matt and James kept the ball out. It seemed only a matter of time before Paxton would score and they did. We couldn't get the ball cleared and the Paxton striker gave James no chance.

The second half started uphill and we played some fantastic football. James had to make a couple of very good saves at the back but we created a lot of chances going forward. First Jordan, then Matt and then Joe could have scored, but it was left to Jon to sprint down (up) the left wing, cut into the area and rifle a shot into the net. Jordan then had 3 storming shots on goal which somehow the keeper managed to keep out.

A really good performance today from everyone. No subs but everyone kept going to the very end and we fully deserved our victory. Man of the match today was Jon for his direct running at the Paxton defence and his 2 great goals.
