2007/2008 - Under 10s Match Reports
The New Year arrived with us hopeful of returning to our winning ways of late summer and early autumn.
Jon was captain today, won the toss and decided to kick off. We started very brightly and looked as though we wanted to play some good football today. We created a couple of early chances, with the ball going across the penalty box in front of goal but our strikers unable to run towards the ball to put it into the net.
Priory scored with their first shot of the game, with us being overrun at the back and the Priory forward calmly slotting past Lewis in goal. We didn't let it get us down though and then went on to play some fantastic football. We passed the ball around in midfield and up front and looked like a good team again. Jordan, James and Jon up front were always looking for the ball, looking up and finding Grace, Joe and Jamie in midfield who were very keen to join them in attack. And at the back, Seb and Matt held firm with Lewis clearing up anything that did get past them.
In the second half we should have scored a couple of goals. The Priory keeper played well, but some more shots when in a good position near the penalty area would have given us more chances of drawing level and then maybe going on to win the game.
Alas, it wasn't to be. However, after watching Englands dismal performances of late with their inability to keep the ball, I thought we did extremely well with our passing game today. We should concentrate on further developing that, and having a crack at goal when around the area.
A really good performance to start the new year. Man of the match was Jamie today for his tireless running, his passing, and creating some chances.
