2007/2008 - Under 10s Match Reports
Back to "the fortress" this week for our first home game of the year, desperate to put our losing and goalless streaks behind us.
The pitch was heavy and it rained throughout but we started off extremely brightly. We were passing the ball around so well that at times we resembled a combination of the Brazil side of 1970, the Dutch side of 1974, and the Oldham side of 1990!
Our passing was superb today. James, Jordan and Jamie upfront being well supported by Jon, Grace and Joe in midfield, and Seb and Matt cleaning up most of the danger at the back. Anything that did get through was very well dealt with by Lewis who had a very good game. Our passing was a joy to watch (even the referee nearly applauded at one stage!) and resulted in us creating a lot of chances. James had a couple of excellent shots, as did Jamie and Grace, but it was Jordan who put us in front for his 7th goal of the season following a tackle by Jamie. We went in at half-time worthy of our lead.
We were a bit slow to get going in the second half and Priory scored and could have had more had it not been for Lewis making some very good saves. However, after 5-10 minutes we got going again and created a multitude of chances. On another day Jamie would have had 3 or 4 goals and Jon and Grace would have scored, but we had to settle for a draw.
The performance this week was the best that I remember this season. We were competitive throughout the team, we tried to keep the ball when we had it, and we went to get it back when we lost it. A fantastic performance today - well done to everyone!
Man of the match this week went to Lewis for his great performance in the first half and during the first 10 minutes of the second half when he kept us in the game.
