I had a good feeling about this game - not because the Director of Football didn't attend, but because I felt we had some goals in us today.
It proved to be correct. Matt was captain today and decided to kickoff. From the kickoff we looked excellent. Jordan played it to Jon, who found Jamie straight away. Jamie pushed it through to Grace who set Jon free for a strike on goal that the keeper saved. The crowd were thrilled
. It was only a matter of time before we scored, and we did that with Jon sliding one in at the far post.
We had our reserve keeper out today in Seb. He did really well, but occasionally forgot that he was playing in goal and that he could pick up the ball. However, he made 2 fantastic saves to keep us a goal up and Matt and Joe were always around to prevent Warboys having too many chances. They did get an equaliser with a long clearance that sneaked past our keeper for a freak goal. We kept going though, and James showed everyone that he wants to play in midfield with a tireless display of running. We scored just before half-time, Jamie crossing into the box and James rising (like a salmon?) to head towards goal. His header deserved a goal but the Match of the Day cameras revealed that it deflected off Jon's knee into the net.
Jamie went in goal for the second half (apart from once where he forgot he was in goal and a clearance from halfway hit his post!). He played extremely well and his throws set us free for our attacking. Just as Jordan looked like he might not score today, he popped up in front of goal and slotted into the far corner with his right foot to keep up his great scoring record this season. We looked in control at this point, but somehow we let Warboys back into the game for a close range goal before having to defend a number of nervous corners at the end.
However, we deserved our win today - our first for ages. Well done - the managers position is safe for another match
.
Man of the match went to James today for his tireless running up and down the pitch.
