2008/2009 - Under 11s Match Reports

A match on astroturf this week in the sun at Godmanchester.

We started superbly, with the whole team getting to grips with the surface, Lewis commanding his area, the defence of Matt and Seb looking very solid, Grace, Joe, James and Jamie putting together some good moves from midfield, and Jon and Jordan always looking to run at the defence and create chances. It took us a while to score but it came eventually from a long throw from Jamie being headed in by Joe who got to the ball before anyone else.

The goal woke up Godmanchester and they created several chances that we saved well by Lewis before scoring an inevitable equaliser just before half-time.

In the second half, they had only touched the ball once and found themselves 2 goals down - 2 great finishes from Jon, the first passed around our midfield and then threaded through for Jon to shoot first time, and the second created and finished by Jon.

Again, Godmanchester came back at us and launched a lot of long balls into our area. They scored 2 quick goals and could have had more but Lewis kept them at bay. At the other end we had a few chances ourselves although seemed to resort to kicking long balls up when a bit of patience and passing may have served us better.

A great game to watch - real end-to-end excitement.

Man of the match today was Lewis who put in his best display of the season - very positive and commanding in his penalty area.
